:: About Us ::

Education:  School is the number one priority.  College is not just a word before hockey.  In order to excel at hockey you need the
grades.  Study sessions are a part of every tournament.  We also participate in the MWEHL Academic Awards program.  Last year
18 of our girls earned MWEHL academic awards!

Blaze Weekends:  The Blaze weekends are comprised of approximately 5-8 hours of on-ice time plus off-ice and chalk talks.  In
order to successfully compete; the Blaze must use this ice time to the teams’ greatest advantage.  We have limited time together
as a whole so we must make every minute count.  Team skills and strategies will be the main focus of our Blaze weekends.
Conditioning is done off ice and at the supplemental ice times.    Drills will be explained off-ice before practice or will be sent to
the girls prior to the weekend.  It is imperative the girls are confident they understand the drill before they get on the ice.

Skill Development:  The Texas Blaze is firmly committed to developing skilled players.  There are no shortcuts to success.  While
it is possible to win more games by focusing on team systems; they will be sacrificing the growth potential of the girls if skill sets
and tactics aren’t fully developed.

The Blaze will be utilizing a unique and innovative individual skills development program to maximize skill development.
1.        A great emphasis for our mid week training will be specific skill drills to be completed.  The girls will receive a detailed
training program for each week utilizing off ice as well as on ice Stick and Puck sessions.  The girls will review the information
and watch a video demonstration (when appropriate) of the drills to be completed.  They will be responsible for completing their
assigned drills during their individual off ice session as well as at a local Stick and Puck.
2.        Athleticism is a major part of the mid week training sessions.  A minimum of 100 minutes of weekly strength & conditioning
is expected in addition to any other activities.
3.        Supplemental ice practice is necessary.  We are working on partnerships with youth teams in Houston, Dallas and El Paso
to allow the girls to practice with Elite level teams.  This will be fee based and is not included in the price of Blaze.

Technology:  The Texas Blaze will be utilizing online video to review team and individual play as well as explain drills and
practices.  All Blaze players must have web access and an email account to receive team information.

Off Ice equipment:  All Blaze players must have certain inexpensive off ice equipment.   A complete list of equipment will be
available soon.

Cross Training and Other Teams:  The Blaze girls are encouraged to take advantage of other school and club sports and
activities as well as playing on Youth travel teams.  We feel it is important to be well rounded.  We do expect that the Blaze team
will be the priority and the girls are to attend all Blaze practices and games.  Specific concerns may be brought to the coach or
hockey director.

Parental Partnership:  The Texas Blaze is a program where the parents’ role is much more than a chauffer to and from a rink.
Parents need to take an active role in the development of their daughter’s hockey.  Besides contributing your time to the team in
the various volunteer positions; you will be responsible for monitoring your daughter’s off ice, skills and supplemental practices.

Practice Locations:  Because of the great expense of travel, it is the policy of the Blaze to schedule practice weekends primarily
based on the teams’ demographics.  Ice availability and costs do factor into location decisions.

Billeting:  To save on travel expenses as well as to encourage team bonding we expect that when a Blaze weekend is in a player’
s home town, those families will provide food and lodging for the out of town girls.  The only expense the traveling players would
incur is the actual travel expense and food during transit.  Ice is scheduled to accommodate leaving Saturday morning and being
home by Sunday evening.  Carpooling will be arranged.  Choosing to travel with your player is an option at additional expense.

The Texas Blaze is offering a complete team package.  All you need is the desire.
Texas Blaze Girls Ice Hockey
The Texas Blaze is a not-for-profit Tier 1 AAA hockey club whose mission is to give the
girls in Texas and surrounding states the opportunities it takes to play College and
National hockey.  We play in the prestigious
MWEHL, a league that offers exposure to the
top teams in the nation and is heavily scouted by college coaches.  We focus heavily on
building a complete hockey player.  One who has the skills and tactics to play at the next
level…and we have a lot of fun doing it!

The Texas Blaze 2006-07 program will be our most aggressive yet.  We’ve come up with a
way to offer everything the elite clubs in the nation offer their players, just in an
unconventional way….and you can still have a life outside of hockey!

The Texas Blaze will be emulating a 120 hour ice season.  We’ve broken down and
analyzed conventional elite teams’ seasons and have designed a unique program that
maximizes the group ice time, and utilizes off-ice and individual skills ice to meet our ice
goal in only 11 Blaze weekends.  Because we rely on structured weekly off-ice and
individual skills assignments as well as supplemental ice with local teams, we can offer
a complete package.
